Ended up around 16,000 words. It was an abject failure. Sadness was felt. Feelings of inadequacy promulgated.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then I realized I had broken a cardinal rule that I didn't think applied to me: I wasn't writing about what I knew. I mean sure I'd researched it and in a sense it was important to me, but I didn't KNOW it. And I think with NaNoWriMo if you don't KNOW your subject, you're going to get bogged down in research and fall behind and possibly give up. At least that's what happened to me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Initially this realization vexed me, because I didn't think I knew anything about anything that would make for an interesting novel. Then my life kind of...dissolved. They say out of pain rises inspiration. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So I'm back for another year. And this NaNoWriMo is going to be deeply personal. Part therapy, part fantasy.
